Lakes Holistic - Julie Brockbank Holistic & Remedial Therapist

For the last 20+ years I have been on the most increadable journey..... My own personal experience of ill health brought me unexpectedly but pleasantly into the field of complementary medicine.

Working with, and studying a variety of therapies has helped me to gain some understanding of the complex functioning of the human body and its many cries for nurturing and healing on all levels.
My recovery and learning journey began in 1999 when, whilst attending regular acupuncture treatments for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (M.E) I became interested in the way complementary therapies treat the ‘Whole person’ and not just the symptoms that ill health presents.
This approach in many cases, including my own leading to recognition and acceptance of what the body is trying to tell us, emotional self-responsibility for that illness and in turn the knowledge to correct poor lifestyle habits and negative belief patterns thus reducing stress and aiding recovery.

My training in Complementary medicine began in November 1999 when I took my Level One Reiki tuition and initiation, at the time I undertook my Reiki One training was to support the acupuncture treatment I was receiving on a regular basis.

Reiki One gave me the ‘tools’ to take responsibility for my illness and begin my own healing journey.

Level Two Reiki was taken in March 2000 and it was at that time I discovered I wanted to share Reiki by helping others.
Reiki Mastership was attained in accordance with Usui Shiki Ryoho Tradition in October 2000.

Further life transforming training and attunement in Usui Original Reiki was taken to Master level with Taggart King
(Reiki Evolution) in 2003.

The satisfaction of seeing others benefit from Reiki lead me to offer other relaxing treatments, treatments that offer just a little space for the body to let go and heal itself.

My continuing training through the IIHHT has enabled me to gain Diplomas in Indian Head Massage, Reflexology and Aromatherapy Massage, Swedish Massage, Advanced Body Massage, Deep Tissue and Remedial Massage.
For every stage of my training I am indebted to those who passed on their knowledge and skills so generously, I feel blessed to have had such good tutors.
In 2001 I studied Vertical Reflex Therapy through the Lynne Booth training school, a very powerful and useful tool especially when incorporated with Reflexology.
As part of on going education in 2003 I attended Lancaster University part time to study Jungian Psychology, attaining a credible Pass with Commendation for my chosen dissertation into Dream Analysis.
Ear Candling Hot Stone Massage and The Dorn Method have been a more recent and popular additions to the range of treatments which I offer.
I am currently a member of The Federation of Holistic Therapists and The International Council of Holistic Therapists and a Member of the Dorn Method Therapists Association.

In recent years I have developed a keen enthusiasm for travel and I am fortunate enough to have a very understanding family who wholly support my taste for adventure.

In April 2004 intrigued and hungry for further knowledge and understanding of healing I took 3 weeks out and traveled to The Casa De Dom Inacio in Central Brazil to witness the work of the one of the world’s most powerful psychic healers- Joao De Deus.
Whilst there I had the rare opportunity to meet Joao and ultimately experience his amazing psychic surgery, this was justly a profound and life changing experience.
I am beholden to those whom I met at the Casa De Dom Inacio who shared their knowledge, love and understanding so generously, and for the healing which I received from Joao.

In March 2005 my travels took me to India where I undertook a fundraising trek in the Himalayas. Trekking for 5 days to an altitude of 10,000 feet was something that 6 years earlier would have seemed like an impossible dream.
The trek offered me the exceptional opportunity to visit Dharamasala (home to the exiled Spiritual Tibetan Leader – The Dalai Lama) where upon I received teaching and empowerment from His Holiness, this was a truly remarkable humbling, rare and spiritual experience.
The Julie Brockbank India Trek raised £5,000 for the charity Action for Blind People. Recognition for this fund raising was acknowledged by Action for Blind People in the form of an invitation to a luncheon at the House of Lords

2006 saw the approach of our 20th wedding anniversary and to celebrate the occasion my husband and I raised £8,000 for The Great North Air Ambulance by trekking the Inca Trail in Peru, a trek that that took in the notorious 14,000foot high Dead Woman’s Pass.

In 2007 my ambitions were realized when, on Easter Sunday despite suffering dreadfully from altitude sickness my daughter Sarah and I made it into Everest Base Camp at 17,700ft high …….truly a dream come true.

Despite vowing ”never again” at Everest Base Camp the satisfaction of pushing oneself to the limits is somewhat addictive, and further high altitude treks in far flung places have now been added to the list including Mount Toubkal in the High Atlas mountains, Morocco – North Africa’s highest mountain. Mount Fansipan, Vietnam – South East Asia’s highest mountain, and in 2009 Stok Kangri’s lofty 20,080ft summit was reached in Ladakh, North India.....this time vowing “never ever again!” – This trip was a particularly personal achievement, as it raised £2,800 for the British Heart Foundation in memory of my late father.

The collective total raised for charity from our treks stands in excess of £16,000 a huge Thank You to everyone who sponsored our efforts, and thank you also to those who also sponsored our abseil from the Tyne Bridge in Gateshead a total of £440.00 was raised for Macular Disease. Further abseils have raised vital funds for our local Mountain Rescue team.

May 2012 saw me undertake The British Gas Great North Swim raising money for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Latterly mid life crisis has occurred and preparing for, and taking part in  half marathons for charity now fills my spare time.

Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!'
‘Goethe’

Thank you all who have supported me on my journey.

The photographs on this site are all taken by myself whist out on our wonderful Lakeland hills or whilst kayaking on Lake Windermere
